Prayagraj,Uttar Pradesh
The ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre, Prayagraj, organised a three-day paid training programme on “Freshwater Fish Taxonomy” during 09–11 February 2026 at Prayagraj. A total of 26 participants, including students and faculty members from various districts of Uttar Pradesh, attended the programme. The concluding session was held on 11th February 2026, in the presence of Mr Vijay Pal, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Uttar Pradesh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest of the valedictory program. In the introductory address, Dr B.R. Chavan, Head of Centre, welcomed all the participants. He has given a brief report of the training program. Few trainees have shared their views and provided feedback on the training, and they express overall satisfaction with attending the training program at ICAR-CIFRI. Mr Vijay Pal has distributed the training certificates to the participants and shared his view about the importance of fisheries in Uttar Pradesh.
The programme imparted detailed knowledge on the present status of the Inland Fisheries, Introduction to Fish Taxonomy, Morphometric and meristic tools in the identification of fish species and Practical on Identification of freshwater Fishes of different orders, etc., during the training period. During the valedictory program, a training manual on “Freshwater fish Taxonomy” was released. The programme was coordinated by Dr A.Alam, Senior Scientist, Dr V. R.
