ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Barrackpore, observed Vigilance Awareness Week from 27th October to 2nd November 2025 under the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility.” The week-long observance began with a formal inaugural ceremony on October 27, 2025. Dr. D.K. Meena, Vigilance Officer at ICAR-CIFRI, delivered the welcome address and outlined the series of activities planned for the week.
The program commenced with the Dr. Basanta Kumar Das, Director of ICAR-CIFRI administering the vigilance pledge to all officials and staff members, while several others participated online. The campus was adorned with posters, banners, and placards highlighting the adverse effects of corruption and reaffirming the institute’s commitment to transparency and integrity.
On October 28, the staff members of CIFRI formed a human chain to demonstrate their collective resolve to fight corruption. The event was followed by a walkathon to Daspara, a nearby locality, aimed at spreading awareness among the public and encouraging citizens to speak up against corrupt practices. Later in the day, a drawing competition was organized for the institute’s staff members.
The week continued with an extempore speech competition on October 29, a quiz competition on October 30, and an essay competition on October 31, which saw enthusiastic participation from senior students of PM Shree Kendriya Vidyalaya and Central Model School, Barrackpore.
The Vigilance Awareness Week concluded with a valedictory ceremony on November 3, 2025. Dr. D.K. Meena, Vigilance Officer at ICAR-CIFRI, welcomed the attendees and recapped the activities held during the week, including the walkathon, human chain formation, and various competitions. Dr. Rahul Das, Scientist at CIFRI, announced the names of the winners, and the Chief Guest, Shri Divey Sethi, IRS, Deputy Director of GST, Kolkata, presented cash prizes and certificates to them.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Basanta Kumar Das, Director of ICAR-CIFRI, highlighted the institute’s commitment to transparent governance, efficient fund utilization, and robust auditing practices. He congratulated the winners and participants for their active involvement throughout the week. In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the need to remain vigilant and uphold ethical conduct, highlighting the distinction between ambition and greed. He appreciated CIFRI’s consistent efforts in fostering integrity and accountability within the organization.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M. Shaya Devi, Scientist at CIFRI, marking the successful culmination of the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations.
