Input Distribution and Awareness Campaign under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) at Meenkara Dam, Palakkad, Kerala.

The Kochi Research Station of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) organized an input distribution and awareness campaign at Meenkara Dam, Palakkad, on 12 March 2025, under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) programme. The event witnessed active participation from members of the Muthalamada SC/ST Fisheries Cooperative Society, Meenkara. As part of the initiative, approximately 3,000 fish seeds of Etroplus suratensis (each measuring 5 cm) and 60 kg of fish feed (sizes 0.8 mm and 0.21 mm) were distributed to the local fishers. Officials from the State Fisheries Department, Palakkad district, graced the occasion and supported the programme.

Dr. Deepa Sudheesan, Officer In-Charge, ICAR-CIFRI Kochi, welcomed the participants and highlighted ICAR-CIFRI’s contributions toward the development of inland fisheries in Kerala. The programme was presided over by Shri Sreedharan Kunjumani, Fisheries Development Officer, State Fisheries Department, Palakkad. Mrs. Fathima Hameed, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Palakkad, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering, emphasizing the central and state government’s initiatives for promoting sustainable fishing practices. Shri Devdas C. R., Fisheries Extension Officer, Palakkad and Ms. Ayana Rajappan, Fisheries Officer, Meenkara, elaborated on the various fisheries enhancement activities being undertaken in the reservoir. Dr. Thankam Theresa Paul, Senior Scientist of ICAR-CIFRI, Kochi, facilitated an interactive discussion with the fishermen. Mrs. Tanuja Abdulla, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Kochi, presented the vote of thanks.

Under the support and guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, the programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. Thankam Theresa Paul, Mrs. Tanuja Abdulla, and Dr. Deepa Sudheesan with valuable assistance from Mr. Shajil, Technician.
