CIFRI-ARGCURE popularized among tribal fish farmers of Darrang district, Assam

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) developed CIFRI ARGCURE, a product to control Argulosis disease in fish culture. ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre Guwahati in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Govt. of Assam organized an “Awareness-cum-input distribution programme” to popularize the product among the fish farmers of Assam under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) programme of the Institute in the Training hall, Office of District Fishery Development Officer, Darrang District, Assam on 11.12.2024 for the benefit of tribal fish farmers of the district. The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore; Dr. S. K. Majhi, Head, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati; Mr. Bipul Khataniar, DFDO, Darrang district, DoF, Govt. of Assam. It was coordinated by Dr. Pronob Das, Senior Scientist (Organizing Secretary); Dr. S. C. S. Das and Dr. A. K. Yadav, Senior Scientist (Co-organizing Secretaries). Shri Parag Kumar Kakaty, ACS, District Commissioner, Darrang district, Govt. of Assam graced as Chief Guest of the Programme. The programme was attended by 100 people including fish farmers, officials, Scientists and media personnels.
During inaugural session, Mr. Bipul Khataniar welcomed the participants and dignitaries for the day-long programme. He thanked ICAR-CIFRI for providing their continuous technical support for development of fisheries in the state. Dr. Pronob Das explained the purpose of the programme. He outlined the research and extension activities carried out by the Institute for development of fisheries in Northeast region with special emphasis in Assam. He also informed about the different products and technologies developed by the Institute for benefits of farmers. Dr. S.C.S Das addressed the gathering and pointed out the significance of fish health management. Progressive fish farmers thanked both the organization for organizing such a unique programme for benefit of the farmers. Shri Parag Kumar Kakaty, ACS, District Commissioner, Darrang district, Govt. of Assam acted as a Chief Guest of the function. He urged both DoF, Assam and ICAR-CIFRI to work closely for development of fisheries in the locality as well as in the state. Inaugural session ended with formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. A.K. Yadav. On the occasion, a total of 220 no. (100 ml/no.) of CIFRI ARGCURE was distributed among 60 tribal fish farmers of the district.
During technical session, Dr. P. Das explained different aspects of fish disease management in aquaculture. He also briefed about scientific merits of CIFRI ARGCURE product for control of Argulosis disease in fish culture. Dr. S. C. S. Das explained in details about better management practices for fish production enhancement. Mr. Amulya Kakati, Technical Officer of ICAR-CIFRI briefly explained about soil and water quality management for better fish health and growth. Mr. A. K.Yadav created vigilance awareness among farmers and officials of fisheries. Ms. R. Devi, Fishery Development Officer, Office of the DFDO, Darrang district briefed about different government schemes for fisheries and allied activities.
During the interactive Session, Scientists and officials addressed the queries raised by the participants on different aspect of fisheries and aquaculture. They urged the participants to adopt scientific fish farming methods including integrated fish farming for sustainable income and livelihood. Farmers requested for organizing more such programmes in future. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Ms. R. Devi.
