Awareness cum feed distribution programme for the fish farmers of Sikkim held on 5th December, 2024

The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Regional Centre, Guwahati in collaboration with Department of Fisheries (DoF), Govt. of Sikkim organized an awareness cum feed distribution programme for popularization of CIFRI CAGEGROW feed among fish farmers of Sikkim in Pakyong and Soreng district, Sikkim on 05th December, 2024. In the state, 10 tonnes of feed were distributed among 50 beneficiaries in the 5(Gangtok, Soreng, Geyzing, Namchi and Mangan) districts of Sikkim under the NEH programme of the institute. The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore; Ms. Roshni Rai, Secretary, DoF, Sikkim; Dr. S. K. Majhi, Head, ICAR-CIFRI, Guwahati and Mr. K. K. Shrestha, Director, DoF, Sikkim. The programme was attended by 50 fish farmers including Scientists from ICAR-CIFRI, Guwahati, Joint Director, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and DoF officials from all the 5 districts of Sikkim.

In Rangpo fish farm, Pakyong district, the feed were distributed to 25 fish farmers of 3 districts, namely, Gangtok (15), Namchi (5) and Mangan (5), respectively. The programme was conducted in presence of Scientists of ICAR-CIFRI, Guwahati (Dr. S. C. S. Das, Senior Scientist & Ms. Niti Sharma, Scientist), Mr. Ugen Testen Bhutia, Assistant Director (DoF, Mangan district), Mr. Rochak Subba, Deputy Director (DoF, Namchi district), Shri Sonam Tsh. Bhutia, Block officer (DoF, Gangtok district) and officials of DoF, Govt of Sikkim. Similarly, in Rothak carp fish farm, the feed were distributed to 25 fish farmers of 2 districts, namely, Gyalshing (10) and Soreng (15) districts. The programme was conducted in presence of Scientists of ICAR-CIFRI, Guwahati (Dr. S. C. S. Das, Senior Scientist & Ms. Niti Sharma, Scientist), Sri Lobsang Tamang, Joint Director, DoF, Govt. of Sikkim, Mr. Duchen Lepcha, Deputy Director (DoF, Gyalshing district), Ms. Deepa Chetri, Block officer (DoF, Soreng district) and officials of DoF, Govt of Sikkim.

The day-long programme in Rangpo and Rothak, Sikkim started with welcome address by Ms. N. Sharma, Scientist, ICAR-CIRI, RC, Guwahati. Dr. S. C. S. Das, Sr. Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI Guwahati in his speech explained the purpose of the programme and the importance of CIFRI CAGEGROW feed. DoF officials, Govt. of Sikkim appreciated ICAR-CIFRI for providing feeds to carp fish farmers of the state and creating awareness among the farmers about the fish feed nutrition. The respective districts officers also expressed their gratitude to ICAR-CIFRI for providing inputs and supporting the fish farmers of Sikkim. The programme ended with a vote of thanks and feed distribution for up-liftment of fisheries in Sikkim state.
