Sensitization program on application of Drone technology for fish disease management and feed application
3rd October, 2024
Precision farming is becoming widespread model because of its integrated smart automated technology. Drone technology is one of the significant part of it. The technology may act as an efficient tool for precise and periodical monitoring of waterbody heath status, spraying disinfects, insecticides to control pathogens, fish disease, macrophyte infestation and applying feed in the large fish farm with less time, inputs and human resources. Under the guidance of Director, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Barrackpore has organized a demonstration cum awareness program to showcase the potential of drone technology in fisheries at Charcharia wetland, East Kolkata Wetland on 3.10.2024 under ICAR Agri-Drone and NSPAAD Phase II project.

In the awareness program, Mrs. Chayna Jana, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI discussed about the applications of drone technology in fish farming and how farmers can get advantages from it with respect to time and input efficiency. Dr. Vikash Kumar, Scientist briefed about fish diseases prevalent in the fisheries and its management practices. Mr. Sariful Islam, Managing Director, Glaucus Agrochem Pvt. Ltd informed about his company which is dedicated to provide various services like feed input, medicine, new technology etc. for commercial fish farming.

During the program, Mr. Kausik Mondal, Technical officer and drone pilot of ICAR-CIFRI has demonstrated the drone flying over the waterbodies and sprayed medicine and broadcasted fish feed in the Charcharia block of East Kolkata Wetland. Fishermen also took active part to know about the technology and showed their interest to use the system in their fish farming. They also showed their concern about the cost of the technology and its availability for use in their farming. A total of 70 fishermen were present in the program. Mr. Asim K. Jana (TO) and Research scholars Mr. Swarup Dasgupta, Mr. Pratim Chatterjee and Mr. Anupam Adhikari supported and coordinated the program.
