Ms. Priyanka Basu Ingty, IAS, Secretary (Fisheries) ,Himachal Pradesh visits ICAR-CIFRI

Ms. Priyanka Basu Ingty (IAS), Secretary, Labour & employment, Printing & Stationery, Fisheries and Youth Services & Sports, Government of Himachal Pradesh, visited ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore on 3rdrd October 2024 to adopt the suitable technologies required for development of sustainable inland fisheries sector in the state of Himachal Pradesh. She mentioned about the present status of fisheries in the state and sought advice from the ICAR-CIFRI in adopting the cage and pen culture technology with special focus on Gobindsagar and Pong reservoir, shown interest in drone technology towards live fish transportation.

Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI in his briefing highlighted the major research achievements of ICAR-CIFRI towards fish bio-diversity, conservation, cage and pen-culture technolgoy, capacity building and also livelihood development of inland fisheries. He discussed the specific technological interventions required in inland fisheries sectors of the state. Secretary also visited the various facilities of ICAR-CIFRI including Feed laboratory, GIS laboratory, Hilsa research facilities, ICP-MS and GC-MS/MS facility, biotechnology laboratory and various other facilities.

The Secretary appreciated the research outputs of ICAR-CIFRI aimed towards enhancing the productivity and sustainability of the inland fisheries sector of the country.
