Awareness cum ornamental fish distribution program organized at ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati

Under the leadership of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and guidance of Dr. S.K. Majhi, Head, ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati, scientific and technical personnel of the Centre has developed a ‘Do it yourself (DIY) type out-staged bio-filter recirculatory aquarium (OBRA) system for ornamental fish rearing’ and has successfully bred Crucian carp and Gold fish in this system. Following the success of this initiative an “Awareness cum fish (seed) distribution program” was organized on 23rd July, 2024 at the Centre with Dr. Simanku Borah, Scientist and Mr. B.C. Ray, STO as Organizing Secretaries. Mr. B.C. Ray, STO explained the background of the breeding program and shared a brief overview on the functioning and advantages of the OBRA system, following which ornamental fish seed was distributed among stakeholders/entrepreneurs present in the program. All staff of the Centre attended the program. Entrepreneurs present in the program expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to ICAR-CIFRI for the initiative and has shown interest in the OBRA system. Dr. Simanku Borah delivered the vote of thanks.
