DR. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary DARE, and DG, ICAR inaugurated the National Ranching Programme 3rd Phase as part of ‘Namami Gange’ at Barrackpore

Dr. Himanshu Pathak is Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India; and Director General,Indian Council of Agriculture and Research visited ICAR-CIFRI, Barrckpore on 19th January, 2024 and inaugurated the 3rd Phase ranching programme under ‘Namami Gange’ at Seoraphuli Ghat, Barrackpore. River ranching programme can pave the way for stock enhancement in open water resources and is vital for the restoration, conservation, and upliftment of this declined fish fauna. In the 2nd Phase of NMCG about 63.5 lakhs advanced fingerlings were released in the river Ganga. Dr. Pathak released fifty thousand advanced fingerlings of Indian Major Carps at the river Ganga as a part of the National River Ranching Programme. Dr. J.K Jena, DDG (Fisheries Science) was also with him during the ranching programme.

Dr, Pathak also inaugurated the boat ‘Matsiki Manthan’ that was purchased under NMCG Phase-II to gear up the exploratory river research programme. The boat has been developed as a floating laboratory to address various issues riverine research. Platinum Wing, Block-A at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore was also inaugurated by the Honorable DG.ICAR.

After the inauguration of the ranching programme and the facilities, all staff meeting was conducted by DG, ICAR at CIFRI New Auditorium. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, DG, ICAR, and was Co-chaired by Dr. J.K Jena, DDG,(Fisheries Sciences). Dr. Pathak interacted with the scientists, technical staffs, administrative staffs, and, skill support staff. The meeting started with the welcome address by Dr. B.K Das, Director CIFRI. Dr. J.K Jena, DDG(Fisheries Science) addressed the CIFRI family members.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak congratulated Dr. B.K Das and all the CIFRI staffs for their contribution to the cause of science. He said that, ICAR worships knowledge for the betterment of the farming community. Dr. Pathak enlightens all the staff members with his words of wisdom. He advised the young scientist to gear up their knowledge and to work hard to achieve excellence in science. Dr. Himanshu Pathak, expressed his happiness for CIFRI research and developmental work and especially the extension work CIFRI is doing in underprivileged areas like Sunderbans and North-Easten States. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Srikanta Samanta, Head FARI Division. The staff meeting was very inspiring and the words of Dr. Himanshu Pathak will help CIFRI staff members to work in new directions and to take the CIFRI’s flag to a new height.
