Dr. B. K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI interacted with the women farmers and encouraged them to enhance their technical knowledge through the training –cum-exposure visit. Dr. Das urged women fish farmers to utilize the untapped opportunities in ornamental fish production and marketing through scientific technical inputs that offer significant scope for enhancing their livelihood and economic security. The participants were taken to the Dasnagar, Howrah an ornamental fish village to strengthen their knowledge of fish brooder maintenance, nursery rearing of ornamental fish, and their management including handling of different ornamental fish species. The participants were also trained on ornamental fish breeding setup and cleaning of the tank. An exposure visit was conducted to Galiff Street, one of the biggest ornamental fish market, to orient the trainees about the marketing of ornamental fish and their accessories.
Women fish farmers expressed their great satisfaction with the curriculum adopted for this training-cum-visit programme to sensitize ornamental fish farmers about ornamental fish breeding and culture practices. Under the guidance of the Director, ICAR-CIFRI the training programme was coordinated by Dr. Aparna Roy, I/C E & T Cell, Dr. Suman Kumari, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore with the help of technical assistance from Dr. Abhisek Saha, Sri Sujit Choudhury Sri Manbendra Roy and Ms. Subhra Singh.
