International Training-cum-Workshop on “Sustainable Fisheries and Dairy” at ICAR-CIFRI

International Training-cum-Workshop on “Sustainable Fisheries and Dairy” was organised by ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute under the sponsorship of the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India during 6-19th December 2023. A total of 24 participants representing Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) were participated in the programme. The two weeks long programme aimed towards capacity building of the researchers/officials involved in research, management and development of fisheries and dairy sector.

The programme was inaugurated on 6th December by the Chief Guest Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) and culminated on 19th December with the gracious presence of Dr. B. Meena Kumari, Former DDG(Fy. Sc) ICAR & Former Chairperson, NBA as Chief Guest and Dr. P. Krishnan, Director, BOBP-IGO, as Guest of Honour. A CIFRI publication on “Catch estimation Methodology for Inland Water bodies” was released during the culmination ceremony.
The training programme covered the latest developments in fisheries and dairy sector with 32 theoretical, 9 practical and 4 field visits including the world heritage site of UNESCO with cultural significance. The country wise presentation was showcased by the team leader of each participating countries highlighting their strengths in fisheries and dairy sector. The participants expressed their satisfaction for the technical knowledge gained through various field visits, theoretical and practical sessions and expressed their contentment with the overall training programme. The country representatives highlighted the need of future collaboration in fisheries and dairy sector towards achieving SDG.

Furthermore, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, highlighted the lessons learnt during the training and recommended for their implementation in the policy formulation in their respective countries.The programme was ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. A.K. Sahoo, the Coordinator of the training programme.
