ICAR-CIFRI HOST THE GREEN CORNER PLATFORM

“Green Corner - Suitable Environment for All” is a programme conducted to welcome and felicitate Mrs. Sudeshna Pal Kar, a solo Expeditioner who is doing 400 km solo Kayaking from Murshidabad to Kolkata for “Save River Save Life” Campaign. The 15 days long kayaking trip was flagged off by Team WALK on 28th November 2023 from Ahiron Ghat, Murshidabad. The team WALK used Kayaking, basically a water sport as a medium to uphold the sport as means of salvaging the environment in our life; they had interacted with various stakeholders of Ganga River during the expedition on the various issues related to aquatic life diversity including Gangetic Dolphin, tributaries, and other water bodies associated with river Ganga.

In this regard, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore successfully conducted ‘Green Corner’ at CIFRI headquarter on 11 December 2023 jointly with Paribesh Bandhab Mancha (PBM), Barrackpore. The programme was initiated with a presentation on “Conservation of aquatic life including Gangetic Dolphin in river Ganga” by Dr. S. Samanta, Head, Fisheries Resource Assessment and Informatics Division, ICAR-CIFRI. Following which Mrs. S. Pal Kar expressed her gratitude to CIFRI for supporting her campaign and shared experiences of her solo trip and opinions related to the issues on aquatic life biodiversity and its conservation, pollution, etc.; also expressed her desire to join hands with CIFRI for the very cause “Save River Save Life” in the near future. During the programme, Mr. Kakol Roy, a representative of Paribesh Bandhab Mancha expressed his views on the failure in successful implementation of various policy and programme meant for conservation of our riverine and natural resources. A Bengali Magazine titled “Nadi Aneshak” was released during the occasion by the team of PBM. A brief interactive session was conducted during the programme in which participants of the programme were actively involved and shared their experiences of work including the problems related to the aquatic life. Then, Mrs. Sudeshna Pal Kar, a solo Expeditioner was felicitated by ICAR-CIFRI and PBM team Barrackpore for her very successful campaign. The programme was concluded with an oath “Save River Save Life” by the CIFRIans and the Paribesh Bandhab team.
