ICAR-CIFRI observed World Fisheries Day at Sangam Nose

ICAR-CIFRI observed World Fisheries Day at Sangam Nose World Fisheries Day, 21st November 2023, was observed by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Prayagraj through a Mass awareness program. The program was organized on Sangam Nose, Prayagraj at the bank of confluence of river Ganga and Yamuna. More than 100 participants consisting of fishermen, pilgrims, students, sadhus etc. were presents on the occasion. The programme was organised in association with Ganga Task Force. The audience were sensitized and aware about the fish and river Ganga. The program was addressed by Dr. Dharm Nath Jha, Head of the Centre, ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj.. He explained the importance of the river and fish for fishermen community and aware for its restoration and conservation. He told that Ganga river is important for human civilization and we have to respect her, clean her and alive her. He also a cautioned the fishermen that they should not catch small size fingerling of Indian Major Carps (IMC) fishes. If these fishes are coming in the net, returned back to the river for further growth. This will help in increasing the population of these fishes which ultimately help in keeping clean Ganga. Lt. Colonel Susheel Guhani of Ganga Task Force addressed the audience and urged the people to keep the Ganga river clean and conserve its biodiversity. This will ultimately enhance the ecological condition of the river and economical condition of the people living on the bank.
