Training cum Capacity Building programme on “Inland Fisheries Management” organized by ICAR-CIFRI

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute conducted a 7-day training-cum-capacity building programme on ‘Inland Fisheries Management’ during 4-10 July 2023, for the fish farmers of Rohtas district of Bihar. 30 fish farmers including 21 women fish farmers along with one fisheries development officer attended the training program. The training program was sponsored by Directorate of Fisheries, Bihar.

In his inaugural address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI stressed on the need of fishers learning about inland fisheries management to secure a sustainable livelihood. He urged fishers to use their available resources to maximize outputs and productivity. The week long training programme covered inland fisheries, fish farming including pond management, induced breeding, composite fish farming, ornamental fishery, enclosure culture, fish health management, , and a general overview of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojona. Participants were also introduced to the Institute's Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), ornamental hatchery units, and fish feed mill. As part of field visit, ICAR-CIFA Rahara Fish Farms, East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW), Ornamental fish markets, and other locations were organised. The participants received their training certificate by Dr. Kuldeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Himalayan University, Itanagar and Dr. B. B. Jana, Retd Professor, University of Kalyani after completion of training on 10 July 2023. Dr. Sharma congratulated all the participants and said for the first time I am seeing seventy percent women fish farmers as trainees. Training Programme was coordinated by Aparna Roy, Ganesh Chandra, Ajoy Kumar Saha with assistance from Kaushik Saha, Sadrupa Bhowmik, Sujit Chowdhury and Manabendra Roy.
