Enabling tribal fishers through distribution of fishing implements

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Barrackpore extended its support to the fishermen cooperative societies belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities for their livelihood improvement through distribution of outboard engines for FRP boats to mechanise the boats already supplied to the societies. ICAR-CIFRI has distributed 5 nos. of outboard engines to the cooperative societies of ST fishers of 5 reservoirs situated in two districts, namely Ranchi and Simdega. Each society received one outboard engine. The recipient societies are Meheshpur Matsyjivi Sahayog Samiti Ltd. (Getalsud reservoir, Ranchi), Keundih Jalashay Matsyjivi Sahayog Samiti Ltd. (Kansjor reservoir, Simdega), Uttiyel Matsyjivi Sahayog Samiti Ltd. (Ramrakha reservoir, Simdega), Chinda/Kelaghag Jalashay Matsyjivi Sahayog Samiti Ltd. (Chinda/Kelaghag reservoir, Simdega) and Larba Jalashay Matsyjivi Sahayog Samiti Ltd. (Larba reservoir, Simdega) of Jharkhand during 06-07 February 2023. The demonstration of the motorised FRP boats was organised at Getalsud and Kelaghag reservoir, respectively. This will help society in monitoring fishing and fish culture activities in enclosure systems of the reservoirs. The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, and coordinated by A. K. Das, Principal Scientist, Dr. Aparna Roy, In-charge, STC and Dr. Raju Baitha, Scientist. District officials of state fisheries department attended and facilitated this program.
