ICAR-CIFRI conducted a webinar to create awareness among the wetland stakeholders

ICAR-CIFRI conducted a NFDB sponsored webinar on ‘Ecosystem-based Integrated Wetland Management for Doubling Farmers' Income on 15th February, 2022. A total of 97 participants, including students, fishers, fish farmers, fishery officials from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur and West Bengal participated in the online awareness programme. The programme was started with a brief welcome address by Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya. Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI in his inaugural address gave a brief introduction regarding the Ecosystem-based Integrated Wetland Management. Dr. Das also opined that awareness and sensitization of stakeholders regarding the ecosystem-based approach should be a priority of ICAR-CIFRI for sustainable inland fisheries management. After that, B.K. Bhattacharjya, PS & HoRC, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati gave an overview on integrated ecosystem management in beels. Dr. Simanku Borah, Scientist, RRC-CIFRI, Guwahati in his lecture sensitized the target populace on Enclosure culture in beels for enhancement of production and income. Overview on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in inland fisheries management was given by Dr. Aparna Roy, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI. After the three consecutive lectures, discussion session was held. The programme was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Simanku Borah. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya, Dr. Aparna Roy and Dr. Simanku Borah under the leadership of Dr. B.K Das.
