Field-day conducted at Takmu pat, Manipur after successful demonstration of cage aquaculture with Pengba, Osteobrama belangeri

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Barrackpore in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Manipur had successfully carried out culture of the endemic carp, Osteobrama belangeri in HDPE modular cages in Takmu pat, Bishnupur district of Manipur under the NEH component of ICAR-CIFRI. Fingerlings of O. belangeri (7-10 g) were stocked in 10 cages (individual cage dimension of 6 x 4 x 2 m) and reared for 6 months and fed with CIFRI CageGrow feed twice-a-day @ 3-5% body weight. After the culture duration, the fish had grown to an average weight of 120 g per fish. Some of the smaller individuals were released in the pat (lake) for their further growth and conservation purpose. On the occasion of final harvesting and release of fish, a field-day was conducted on 28.10.2021 at Takmu pat cage culture site to share the results with the fishery officers, fishers and other participants on cage farming of indigenous species having high local demand and solicit suggestions for future experiments.
