ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj conducted a one day Webinar on “Impact of COVID-19 on ecology and fisheries of river Ganga”

A one day webinar was conducted by ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj on “Impact of COVID-19 on ecology and fisheries of river Ganga” on 18th October 2021. Dr. Dharm Nath Jha, Scientist-In-charge, ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj, welcomed the resource persons and participants and explained the subjects and motto of the webinar. Four subject experts from different fields were invited for talk on the subject. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore explained in detail the fish and fisheries of the river Ganga and urged the fishermen to follow the Covid-19 protocol during fishing in the river. Dr. Ruchi Badela, Senior Professor, Wildlife Institute of India presented the role of “Ganga Prahari” in conservation of the river Ganga and its species diversity. Prof. B. D. Joshi, Retired Professor, Gurugul Kangdi University, Haridwar elaborated the impact of Covid-19 on ecology of river Ganga and provided different ways to be followed to keep Ganga clean. Dr. S K Manna, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore gave positive response on eating fishes of Ganga. So that, people can eat fishes from river Ganga and there is no such issues in eating fishes of the river.
Programme was organized through Zoom platform and about 100 participants comprised of farmers, entrepreneurs, students and teachers from different Universities. Representatives from Ganga Vichar Manch (Shri. Rajesh Sharma), Ganga Task Force (Colonel Vinit Seth), and many from Ganga Prahari were joined in this webinar. Shri Rajesh Sharma requested all to keep the Ganga clean and preserved. At the end of the programme, Dr. Absar Alam, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj gave a formal vote of thanks to all the speakers and participants. Other scientist of the Center Dr. V Thakur, Mr. Jeetendra Kumar and Mr. Shravan Kumar Sharma extended support in organizing the programme.
