Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR inaugurated Multifacility training complex and ICPMS facility at ICAR-CIFRI

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR visited ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore on 6th October 2021. His visit started with River Ranching of Ganga River at Gandhi ghat Barrackpore with 75000 Fingerlings of Indian Major carp released in river under Namami Gange program. 50 Catla fishes were tagged and released to study the migration and to take conservation measures.
Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR also launched Drone facility for sampling of water bodies as a part of use of IOT in fisheries. This facility will be used to take water samples for analysis from open water bodies. Dr JoyKrushna Jena, DDG (Fy Sc), Dr B. K. Das, Director, Dr Anil Rai, ADG (ICT) and other officers were present on this occasion.
Hon’ble Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR inaugurated the Multifacility training complex, ICPMS facility and laid the foundation stone of 2nd floor of main building at the institute.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed about the activities and achievement of ICAR-CIFRI. He appreciated the guidance and blessings of Hon'ble Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR. He briefed that during last five years, ICAR-CIFRI has commercialised four technologies and two more are in pipeline. He stressed that the new ICPMS unit inaugurated today will help in measuring pollution in River Ganga and other water bodies.
Dr. J. K. Jena, DDG, Fisheries Sciences, ICAR in his address congratulated the institute for 46 publications in the journals with very high impact factor and also for commercialization of technologies in short time of few years. He said that although the production from the inland sector is increasing compared to the past but we can enhance the production more by the effective utilization of the vast wetland & reservoir resources so that a large numbers of fish farmers will be benefitted. He also said that CIFRI is the leading institute which continuously working on the enhancement of income and livelihood of the fish farmers. He emphasized that the institute will continue to do its work for the betterment of the nation with the blessings and guidance of respected DG, ICAR.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR in his presidential speech congratulated the Director, ICAR-CIFRI & all staff members for the glorious 75 years of the institute. He said that it is praiseworthy that the institute had published many publications in quality high impact factor journals. He emphasized for doubling the farmers income through concerted efforts. He advised that more technologies must be developed for effective data generation for systematic and scientific management of pollution and biodiversity of the riverine, reservoir and wetland systems. He appreciated the institute for doing good work in river Ganga through NMCG project.
On this occasion One book " Fish mapping of River Ganga: A GIS perspective" and one new technology "FishTanavhari" were released by Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR.

Mahapatra, Vice Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Dr. Anil Rai, ADG (ICT), Directors of ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, Officers and Staff members of ICAR institutes were present on this occasion.
