ICAR-CIFRI Celebrated Campaign on Nutri-Garden and Tree Plantation

As a part of the International Year of Millets 2023, a Campaign on Nutri-garden and Tree Plantation ( Poshan Vatika and Vriksharopan Mahaabhiyan) was organized by ICAR-CIFRI on 17 September 2021 at ICAR-CIFRI, headquarters barrackpore and its regional centres at Prayagraj, Guwahati, Bangaluru, Vadodara and kochi.
200 saplings of fruits viz. Mango, Guava, Lichi, Lemon, Jackfruit, Pomegranate, Jamun, Coconut, Bael, Custard apple, Java apple, Sapota and health trees like Neem, Tulsi were planted at institute headquarters and its regional Centres. Apart from this 117 saplngs were planted at field locations viz Chamardaha and Chamta beel in North 24 Parganas and Kolaghat Hilsa field station. The programme was undertaken under the leadership of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore at CIFRI headquarter Barrackpore. Head of regional centres led the tree plantation campaign at regional centres.

CIFRI RC Prayagraj: 36
CIFRI RC Guwahati: 25 (at Field Centre Ghorajan beel, North Guwahati)
CIFRI RC Vadodara: 15
CIFRI RC Kochi: 10
CIFRI RC Kolkata: 6
Tree plantation were also carried out at experimental station at Chamardaha and Chamta beel in North 24 parganas and Hilsa field station, Kolaghat, Midnapore, west Bengal. Total 117 saplings were planted at these three locations.
During the day awareness meeting was organized where all the staff members of ICAR-CIFRI Participated. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI enlightened the staff regarding the importance of including millets in their daily diet for a healthy life and also the need for growing millets at every household. Millet products were also distributed on this occasion.
Apart from saplings plantation, awareness program on nutrition through millets products was also organized at Chamardaha and Chamta beels of West Bengal, Ghorajan Beel in Assam, Rasulabad ghat of Prayagraj, regional centre, Bangaluru and on this occasion various millet products were also distributed to the beneficiaries fishers household.
