National campaign on "System Diversification in Aquaculture" @ Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav

ICAR-CIFRI conducted a webinar and two awareness programmes as a part of National Campaign on ''System Diversification in Aquaculture” to commemorate India @75 – Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. Webinar on “Enclosure culture for fish production enhancement in Inland open waters” was started at 11 AM with the welcome address of Dr. B.K Das,Director CIFRI. In his address he opined that enclosure culture (cage and pen) of fish in reservoirs and wetlands offer a good scope for increasing fish production through seed rearing and table fish production by reducing pressure on land-based fish farms. Through this webinar topics like status and prospects of enclosure systems, culture protocols, diversified species, feeding protocols for enclosure culture, health management aspects as well as various schemes under PMMSY was covered. The programme was coordinated by Dr. MA Hassan, Dr. A.K Das, Dr. Aparna Roy, Ms. Gunjan Karnatak and Dr. H.S Swain. More than 200 participants were present in the webinar. The questions raised by the participants were answered by the expert members.
An awareness programme was also conducted on “Enclosure culture” in Ghorajan beel, Kamrup Rural District,Assam. The programme was coordinated by Dr. B.K Bhattacharya, Dr. Dipesh Debnath and Dr. Niti Sharma. About 42 beel fishers participated in the awareness programme.
Another awareness programme was conducted by Dr. Deepa Sudheesan, Centre incharge Kochi Centre at Kanjirapuzha reservoir, Kerala. About 46 tribal fishers participated in the awareness programme. India has vast and diversified inland open water resources providing enormous scope for fish production enhancement and ensure nutritional and livelihood security to rural poor. ‘System diversification in aquaculture’ will definitely help the in doubling farmers income in coming days.
