Dr. S.Ayyappan, Ex Secretary, DARE & DG ICAR Delivered First CIFRI Platinum Jubilee Lecture @Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav

To commemorate the 75th year of Indian Independence Bharat ka Amrit Mahotsav and 75th year of ICAR-CIFRI platinum Jubilee, the institute will be organizing a series of lectures by all eminent personalities. The first Platinum Jubilee Lecture Series lecture was delivered by Dr. S. Ayyappan, Former secretary DARE and DG ICAR on 3rd August, 2021.
Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR- CIFRI welcomed Dr. S. Ayyappan and all the dignitaries and participants and briefly described about the journey of ICAR-CIFRI. He introduced about Dr. S. Ayyappan with his journey from Scientist of ICAR-CIFRI to the top most position by becoming Director General of ICAR. ICAR-CIFRI and all the CIFRIANs are honoured to have Dr. Ayyappan delivering the first lecture of the platinum jubilee series on the topic “CIFRI: Remembering with Reverence”.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Former secretary DARE and DG ICAR, started his lecture by congratulating all the members of ICAR-CIFRI and Dr. B. K. Das for winning prestigious Sardar Patel Best ICAR institution award 2020 and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai award. In his lecture, he highlighted the journey of CIFRI from the beginning and also gone with a vision of reaching new horizons in the inland fisheries sector. He also elaborates the evolution of the institute with milestones of ICAR-CIFRI from year 1947 for becoming the pioneer one that it is today and cut a niche for itself in the area of inland fisheries. He also emphasized on the potential areas that CIFRI has the scope of expanding in both in terms of reach and further progress. He described in detail about, contribution of ICAR-CIFRI to the National Agricultural Research System (NARS). He illustrated on the Vision 2030 and 2050 regarding increasing production as well as the income of fish farmers, about Cage and pen culture technologies invented by ICAR-CIFRI which not only help to increase the production from the reservoirs and wetlands also act as blessing for improving the livelihood of the fishermen. He stressed on the fusion of technologies, innovation and start up in fisheries sector, COVID-19 and its impact on fisheries and aquaculture, about PMMSY components, key targets and schemes related to inland fisheries. He concluded his lecture thanking all the stalwarts of ICAR-CIFRI who helped in bringing blue revolution in India and brought laurels to the Country.
Dr. M. V. Gupta, Former ADG World Fish, and World Food laureate congratulated Dr. Ayyappan for the nice lecture and told about his work life in ICAR-CIFRI. Dr. A. Eknath, Former DG, NACA requested all for giving a standing ovation to Dr. S. Ayyappan for the outstanding lecture and serving to the fisheries and agriculture sector. He congratulated ICAR-CIFRI for arranging such nice programme. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Former Vice Chancellor and Director ICAR-CIFE, in his address congratulate Dr. S. Ayyappan for the outstanding presentation. He also emphasized about the contribution of Ayyappan sir for agriculture as well as in fisheries sector.
Dr. J. K. Jena, DDG (Fishery Sciences) ICAR concluded the session and emphasized importance of the sector in the present days. He also congratulated Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI for bringing the stalwarts of the country in a same platform. He said that it was a privilege to hear Dr. S. Ayyappan and mentioned his lecture as mesmerizing and scintillating.
Many other renowned personalities Dr. S D Tripathi, Former VC and Director, ICAR-CIFE; Dr. N. Sarangi, Former Director,ICAR- CIFA; Dr. K. K. Vass, Former Director, CIFRI; Prof.. A. P. Sharma, Former Director ,CIFRI; Dr. V.V Sugunan, ADG Inland Fisheries; Dr. Riji John,VC,KUFOS; Sri K Suresh, Former IAS expressed their views on his lecture.
The programme was ended up with standing ovation by all participants to salute and honor Dr. S. Ayyappan ,who has a achieved the highest scientific position in the country from a humble background through his dedication, devotion, discipline and determination.
Doyens of Indian Fisheries; Vice Chancellors of State Agriculture and Fisheries Universities; ADG (Marine Fisheries) and ADG (Inland Fisheries), ICAR; Directors of ICAR-CIFE, ICAR-CMFRI, ICAR-CIFT, ICAR-CIFA and other ICAR institutions; Deans of several fisheries colleges; Senior Officers of all ICAR fisheries institutes; faculty members and students of many universities participated in the meeting. More than 1000 participants participated and benefitted the lectures on virtual platforms including live screening on You Tube and Facebook.
