CIFRI conducted NFDB sponsored online training on Enhancing reservoir fisheries for livelihood and nutritional security

An NFDB sponsored online training programme on “Enhancing reservoir fisheries for livelihood and nutritional security’ was organized by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore on 29.07.2021. The aim of the virtual training programme was to sensitize the participants about the importance of reservoirs for fisheries enhancement and impart operational knowledge about various aspects of reservoir fisheries management for livelihood and nutritional security. In the inaugural session, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed the participants and encouraged them to develop the reservoir fisheries in a sustainable way to improve their nutritional and livelihood security. Then, Dr. U. K. Sarkar, HoD of RWF division as well as one of the coordinators of the training programme presented the topic of recent advancements in reservoir fisheries management in India. In this programme, Dr. A. K. Das, In-charge of Training and Extension Unit and another coordinator of the programme orient the trainees on various aspects of reservoir fisheries enhancement for livelihood security through online mode. Lecture on role of biotic communities in reservoir fisheries management was delivered by Dr. Suman Kumari, Scientist, RWF Division. Dr. Aparna Roy, Senior Scientist, T&E Unit, CIFRI delivered a talk on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to make the participants aware about various schemes suitable for reservoir fisheries enhancement. A total of 118 participants from various sections of the society like students, faculties of CoF, universities, colleges, DoF Officials, Scientists, SMS of KVKs, progressive farmers, fishers, entrepreneurs, NGOs, SHGs from different states namely West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh etc. took active part in the technical session of the virtual training programme.
