ICAR-CIFRI celebrated International Women’s Day, 2021

ICAR-CIFRI celebrated International Women’s day on 8th March, 2021 in the Barrackpore Headquarter. The theme for this year’s women’s day was “Choose to challenge” and the whole programme was designed keeping the central theme in mind. The programme started with the ICAR Song. Dr. Suman Kumari, Scientist and Chairman Women Cell welcomed the esteemed guests and participants. Three Women entrepreneurs were awarded for their exemplary contributions in the fisheries sector. Smt. Subha Pathak an IMC seed grower from Naihati shared her views to come up strongly to support her husband in his poor health condition and travelled to various parts of India for the purpose of her business. Smt. Rumpa Meyur and Ms. Hossenara Khatun, Ornamental fish Growers were also felicitated on the occasion of International Women's Day. Dr. Aparna Roy, Sr. Scientist, and Chairman Women Complaint Cell made a presentation on “Women in Fisheries Sector: A Journey Towards 3E’s”. She delineated the role of ICAR-CIFRI in empowering fisherwomen. Dr. Kaushalya Nayek, Lecturer,DAV College, Odisha in her speech, highlighted how women are balancing their life both in professional and household sectors. Ms. Sarmistha Das, IAS, MD, Benfish graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In her speech, she shared some inspiring case studies and success stories of rural women. A Painting Competition was organized on the occasion of International Women's day and the participants were awarded on that very day. Appreciation certificates12 lady staff were also given appreciation certificates for their Institute Building activities. Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI in his address reminded the women staff that they can touch the sky based on their activities. He also appreciated the women scientists and staff for their contribution for the cause of science. About, 220 persons including 30 fisher women, two State Department Officials and CIFRI staff members participated in the programme. Staffs of the RRC,ICAR-CIFRI also attended the programme through online mode. The programme was ended up with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sunita Prasad, ACTO and Member Secretary, Women Cell.
