CIFRI Awards
ICAR-CIFRI Kochi Centreconducted an awareness cum training programme on culture of pearlspot(Etroplussuratensis) in CIFRI HDPE pens in Vazhani Dam on 4 th January 2021. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Maja Jose (DDF, Thrissur) in the presence of Mr.Shibu Kumar (SI Fisheries, Vazhani) and Mr. P. Gangadharan (President, Vazhani Dam Harijan- Girijan Fisheries Co-operative Society). The fishermen belonging to ST community of Vazhani Dam Harijan- Girijan Fisheries Co-operative Society (Vazhani, Thrissur Dt.) participated in the programme. Dr.DeepaSudheesan, Scientist & Officer in charge welcomed the distinguished invitees and fishers of Vazhani to this programme.The fishers were provided with 3 CIFRI HDPE pens, 7500 seeds and 100 kg feed under the TSP programme by the ICAR-CIFRI Kochi centre.
The programme involved discussion on improving the livelihood of Vazhani reservoir fishers with the help of CIFRI HDPE pens by Dr.DeepaSudheesan (Scientist) and Dr.Thankam Theresa Paul (Scientist). The use of CIFRI HDPE pens in enhancing culture based fisheries was explained to the fishers. The fishers explained the fluctuating water levels in reservoirs as their major concern. The fishers were also guided on feeding schedule of fishes. The program was successfully convened with the help of Shri S. Manoharan, CTO and Shri. P.V.Shajil, SSS of ICAR-CIFRI Kochi centre.
