To reach the unreached - virtual training of ICAR-CIFRI.

ICAR-CIFRI conducted a training programme (online mode) on 4th December 2020 to enhance fish production through pen culture in Inland open waters for the fishers and fish farmers of West Bengal and north-eastern states of Tripura. The training programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. T. Mohapatra, DG, ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. J.K. Jena, DDG (Fy. Sc.), ICAR, New Delhi; and the leadership of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.

A total of 101 active fishers and institute staffs (89 online and 12 offline) have participated in the training programme from both the states covering Khalsi Udbastu Matsya Jibi Samabay Samiti, Nadia district; Beledanda FCS and Chamta FCS, North 24 Pargana district, Panchita FCS and Kumli FCS along with the adopted fishers of Sargachi KVK and others individual fishers. While inaugurating the programme Dr. B.K. Das, Director focused on the need for such training programme during the present COVID pandemic situations and ensured to the fishers that ICAR-CIFRI always will be there on various culture aspects, especially of pen culture on Inland open water fisheries management to ensure their sustainable livelihood security. Divisional Heads of the Institute, Dr. S. Samanta, Dr. B.K. Behera also took part in the inaugural programme and expressed their views. The training was for two hours duration with four lectures.

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana implemented by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, was briefed by the scientists of ICAR-CIFRI.

In the interactive session, the entire fishers quarries were answered by the experts and assured them any kinds of technical help in the near future.

The overall programme was well coordinated by Dr. M.A. Hassan, Head FEM Div., & Dr. Aparna Roy, Scientist, E & T Cell with the supports of Co-coordinators by Dr. S.K. Manna, Pr. Scientist and Dr. D. Bhakta, Scientist of the Institute. The programme was assisted by Mr. S.K. Sahu, Scientists; Mr. Avishek Saha, STA, and Mr. Pratik Pathak, YP-II of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.
