CIFRI Awards
Awareness cum demonstration programme on Reservoir fisheries management and Pen culture for the SC fishers of Baghua reservoir, Nayagarh district of Odisha has been organised under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI on 13th November 2020. The programme was jointly organized by ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Rotary club of Bhubaneswar Royal, Odisha and Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Odisha under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) of ICAR-CIFRI. Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI has emphasized on the present production of Baghua reservoir of Odisha and its actual potential yield. The reservoir was adopted keeping an additional fish production upto 15tons from the exiting 7 tons. Dr. Das interacted with the fishers and sensitized them about the importance of the scientific management of reservoirs for enhancing the fish production in a sustainable manner. The programme was graced by the State Fisheries Officials (Mr. P.R. Rout, Joint Director, Mr. S. Acharya, Deputy Director and Mr. S.K. Mohanty, Deputy Director) and members of Rotary club of Bhubaneswar Royal, Odisha. On this occasion, the fingerlings of Indian Major Carp (IMC) were stocked in pen for the raising of stocking material for reservoir. Different fisheries implements like HDPE pen, fish seed, floating fish feed and mechanized FRP boat were already distributed to the Primary Fishermen Cooperative Society of Baghua reservoir where majority of fishermen community were SC. Considering the pandemic COVID-19 situation all the precautionary measures were taken care and the face masks and sanitizers were distributed to all the beneficiaries. The programme was well covered by the print and electronic media.
