ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati organized a Webinar (e-extension service) on ‘Integrated Farming Systems: Agriculture, Fisheries & Livelihood Security for Rural Communities’ in collaboration with Grameen Sahara, a Not-for-Profit Organization

The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Regional Centre, Guwahati, in collaboration with Grameen Sahara, a Not-for-Profit Organization of Assam, successfully organized a webinar on "Integrated Farming Systems: Agriculture, Fisheries & Livelihood Security for Rural Communities" on 7th July, 2026. The programme was conducted as an e-extension initiative to disseminate information on integrated farming systems among rural communities of Assam for their development.
Dr. Simanku Borah, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati and Organizing Secretary of the webinar moderated the program. The resource persons from Department of Fisheries, Government of Assam; College of Fisheries, Assam Veterinary and Fisheries University, Raha; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Assam Agricultural University, Kamrup delivered lectures on topics namely- Community-Based Models of Agriculture and Fisheries Integration; Fisheries as a Driver of Rural Livelihood Security; Women as Leaders in Fisheries and Aquaculture; Adapting Fish Farming to Floods, Droughts and Changing Weather Patterns.

At the end of the program, Dr. S. Borah briefed the key take home message based on the lectures delivered by the resource persons, where he highlighted the need of regularly desilting fish ponds to tackle the issue of dissolved oxygen depletion; regular liming of fish ponds; adoption of integrated farming practice to increase farmers’ income; biosecurity measures for fish farms; low-cost fish drying techniques; value addition in fish; short duration fish culture as a flood-resilient fish farming technique; use of early warning systems and preparedness against flood; fish seed raising in backyard ponds; culture of small indigenous fishes like Mola, etc.. A total of 132 participants, including fish farmers, women involved in fisheries and students attended the webinar.
