Promoting Sustainable Farming: Awareness Program on Khet Bachao Abhiyan The ICAR-CIFRI organized an Awareness Program on Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Mathpara Primary School, Harighata Block, Nadia district, under the guidance of the Director, ICAR-CIFRI, with the participation of 71 farmers including 23 women and 48 men from the villages of Uttarbrahmapur, Mathpara, and Khalsi. The program was inaugurated by Dr. A.K. Bera, HOD (Actg) and Principal Scientist, who emphasized the importance of soil testing, soil health cards, and the harmful effects of excessive chemical fertilizer use.

Dr. Arun De, Senior Scientist, highlighted the side effects of pesticides, strategies for crop planning to reduce fertilizer dependency, and the need for sustainable alternatives while also outlining major agricultural schemes. Dr. M. Shaya Devi, Scientist, discussed the benefits of organic fertilizers and green manures, stressing their role in protecting soil health and ensuring long-term sustainability. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Abhijeet Kumar Gupta, acknowledging the contributions of participants and organizers. It was coordinated by Dr. A.K. Bera, Dr. Arun De, and Dr. M. Shaya Devi with assistance from Mr. Abhijeet Kumar Gupta, and field support was provided by Mr. Gopal from Mathpara, Harighata Block, Nadia District.
