Farmers from Rohtas, Bihar first time ever is undergoing training at ICAR-CIFRI

A training program was inaugurated at the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore for 31 trainees from Rohtas District of Bihar on 13 th September, 2018 on “Inland Fisheries Management”. The training programme is scheduled from 13 th to 19 th September,2018. The programmehas been organized based on the need of fishermen and fish farmers of Rohtas district of Bihar as Bihar has vast range of waterbodies having tremendous potential for inland fisheries enhancement and management. The programme was inaugurated with welcome speech of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI who addressed the trainees and spoke about the entrepreneurial opportunities in fisheries which can be harnessed with better marketing and business skills. He emphasized on need of educated youth in the fisheries sector who can be job creators for future besides making their own profit from fisheries. The programme consists of three days of lecture along with hands on training sessions and three days of field exposure visits in Kolkata, ICAR-CIFA field station, Kalyani and Naihati. The training programme contains sessions on various aspects of inland fisheries management which include water and soil chemistry, induced breeding of fish, fish health management, wetland management, ornamental fish culture, cage culture, fish feed preparation, etc. The programme is scheduled to end with collection of feedback from them for improvement of future training programmes of the institute.
