A 5-days training programme for the officials of Department of Fisheries (DoF), Chhattishgarh has been inaugurated by Dr. B.K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI on 09 th April, 2018 at ICAR-CIFRI Head Quarter, Barrackpore. A total of 25 officials comprising Assistant Fisheries Officer (AFO) and Fisheries Inspector (FI) participated in this training programme. Dr. B.K Das, while welcoming the fisheries officials during inaugural session, emphasized on the importance of such training program on Inland fisheries management with special emphasis on reservoir fisheries as to secure the life & livelihood of the farmers thriving in this sector besides eradicating mal nutrition of rural India. The training modules covered on- field exposure visits, field demonstrations and in-house class interactions with the scientists of ICAR- CIFRI. The interactive sessions involved the present aspects of inland open water fisheries with special emphasis on reservoir fisheries management and problems faced by the fishers depending on this water bodies. There are perennial and seasonal water bodies in Chhattishgarh including rivers, reservoirs, canals anicuts, and checkdams where fisheries enhancement could be made following sustainable management practices prioritising stock enhancement program mostly. Dr. Das urged the officials to come forward as to utilize the knowledge gained during the training periods at CIFRI in their respective water bodies and provide feedback to CFRI if they face any problem in the field while enhancing fisheries in this sector. Dr. B. P. Mohanty, Head, FREM Division took initiative in strengthening knowledge of the officials on small indigenous fishes (SIFS), their nutritive values besides enhancing these species in inland open waters of Chhattishgarh. The training program is well coordinated by Dr. A.K Das, I/C E & T Cell, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.
