The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting of the Institute was held on May 18, 2020 in virtual mode. This is the first meeting of newly constituted RAC (2020-2022) of the Institute. Chairman of RAC Prof. (Dr) Baskaran Manimran, RAC Members Dr. K.G. Padmakumar, Dr. Sharad Kumar Jain, Dr. S. C. Pathak and Dr. B. P. Mohanty (ADG, I. Fy.), ICAR participated in the meeting. Dr. A. K. Das, Member Secretary of the RAC initiated the programme with formal introduction of the Chairman and Members of this RAC. Dr. J. K. Jena, DDG (Fy. Sc.), ICAR took special interest and participated in the meeting with his valuable remarks request the committee to recommend advisories for the progress of research activities of the Institute. The recommendations of the RAC should be incorporated in to coming IRC deliberations, Dr. Jena added. The meeting was supposed to be held during 27-28 March, 2020 but due to pandemic, it was delayed. Chairman, Prof Manimaran, in his inaugural remarks applauded by recalling the glorious achievements of CIFRI in the past and being honoured to be associated as Chairman of RAC of this prestigious Institute. Dr. Pathak, recalled his attachment to the Institute for the last 40 years being a CIFRIAN from where he started his career as Scientist and also expressed his satisfaction about CIFRI’s achievements submitted before the Committee and ongoing QRT Committee of the Institute. Dr. Jain expressed his keen attachment with this Institute in regard to water resource management and e-flow modules as prescribed by CIFRI. Dr. Padmakumar expressed his keen interest in research activities of the Institute and collaborate with CIFRI in future and way forward. Dr. Mohanty, a CIFRIAN and presently ADG (I.Fy.), in his initial remarks invited all the Members of this RAC to suggest research activities of Institute to take the Institute to a new height. Director Dr. B.K. Das in his welcome remarks invoked all the hon’ble Members of the RAC highlighting them about the glorious past of the Institute and activities being carried out across the country during the last 74 years. He requested the new committee members to guide the research activities of the Institute so as to deliver and translate research into plate to address nutritional security of this country. Dr. Das also presented the overall achievement and works performed during 2019 by the Institute. Heads of Divisions, Head of the Regional Centres and Stations presented achievements made under different Institute Projects and other activities at their respective Divisions, Units and Centres. Achievements of two ICAR Network Projects were also presented by the respective Principal Investigators. Chairman Prof. Manimaran and other members expressed satisfaction in the overall progress and also appreciated various initiatives taken by the Institute. At the end, Chairman and Members made their concluding remarks and suggested few points as recommendations of RAC. Director Dr. B.K. Das thanked the Chairman and all the RAC Members, DDG (Fy. Sc.) and ADG (I. Fy.) for their valuable suggestions and remarks which would help the Institute to strive for more glory. The meeting ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. A.K. Das, RAC Member Secretary, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.
