CIFRI Awards
ICAR-CIFRI celebrated 71st republic day marked by a ranching programme by releasing 50,000 of fingerlings of Indian Major Craps at Gandhi Ghat in River Ganga with an aim of sustaining and conserving the biodiversity in the river under Namami Gange Program. The fingerlings were produced by artificial breeding of Gangetic brooders. Shri Deepankar Bhattacharya, IPS and DIG of Vivekananda State Police Academy graced the event as a guest of honour. He briefed about the ongoing degrading situation of the holy river and urged the local people to initiate active coordination to make the Ganga clean. Along with him many police official joined in the ranching program Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Principal Investigator, CIFRI-NMCG project highlighted the present project activities and need of ranching in the river Ganga. Trilingual pamphlets distributed were among the fishermen and public present. Still today ICAR CIFRI ranched more than 22 lakhs of fish seed in different depleted stretches of river Ganga covering four states. More than 150 officials of VSPA, NMCG project staffs and ICAR-CIFRI members were present during the river ranching
