ICAR-CIFRI conducted a sponsored skill development programme at Barrackpore

ICAR-CIFRI conducted a three Days NFDB sponsored skill development programme on “Inland ornamental fisheries management for income generation” during 6-8 August 2019 at it’s Head Quarter,Barrackpore. A total of 50 trainees including 15 women from different corners of West Bengal including Howrah, Buz Buz, Barasat, Sagar Island, Frazergunj , Diamond Harbour, Hoogly, Barrackpore and Sheoraphuli attended the same. The programme was inaugurated by the Acting Director, Dr. V. R. Suresh. Dr. Arun Pandit and Dr. Aparna Roy shared their views on the topics with the trainees. This was followed by the introduction of trainees and their expectations from the programme. A total of ten lectures and five practical classes were organized for improving the skills of the trainees in Ornamental fisheries. Resource persons delivered the lectures, conducted practical/demonstration on the subjects like status of ornamental fisheries, breeding and culture, Water quality and feed management of ornamental fishes. Emphasis was also given to acquaint the trainees with bio security and quarantine protocol, transport and packaging, domestic and export markets of ornamental fish in India. The expert from Nationalized Bank Sri Sanjoy Biswas, Manger, Canara Bank with Smt. Puja Ghosh interacted with trainees and created awareness towards availability of banking loans for ornamental fisheries. An interactive meeting with Scientist and Technical staff was conducted at the end of the programme to get the feedback from trainees. Dr.(Mrs.) G.K.Vinci, former Principal Scientist of the Institute also addressed the trainees and congratulate them for successful completion of the training. A training manual on ‘Ornamental fisheries management’ was also released on this occasion and was distributed among the trainees. About 85% of the trainees expressed that they were highly satisfied and requested for conducting more such training of long duration. Certificates were distributed to them in presence of Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Acting Director; Dr. V. R. Suresh, HOD, REF Division ; Dr. B.P.Mohanty, HOD , FREM Division; and Dr. A.K.Das, Incharge, Extension Cell of the Institute. The skill development programme was coordinated by, Dr. Archana Sinha, Dr. Kavita Kumari, Mr. Tasso Tayung and Sri H.S.Swain.
