More than 100 tribal families are depending on the Adivasi Dighi and were doing traditional fish farming in the derelict water body of 10 Ha area. ICAR-CIFRI with an aim to develop the wetland and the livelihoods of tribal fishers started intervention in 2016. With the intervention of ICAR-CIFRI, the Tribal fishers partially cleared the weeds from the wetland. ICAR-CIFRI provided fish seed in the year 2016-17. Recently a capacity building programme was organized at ICAR-CIFRI and 30 tribal fishers were trained. Regular monitoring of water quality is being done by the TSP members.

A farmer Scientist interaction programme was organized at Gardanamri, Burdwan, West Bengal on 6-12- 2017. More than 130 fishers attended the interaction with scientists of ICAR-CIFRI. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI addressed the queries of fishers regarding scientific fish framing along with that he also emphasized on vegetable culture and integrated farming to improve their livelihoods. He also requested to keep the environment of the village and the surrounding of the wetland clean. In his address he also emphasized on saving out of the profits made out of the wetland fisheries for further invest in the fisheries development of the wetland.

Director, ICAR- CIFRI distributed the fishing implements (Drag Nets) and Fish feed to the tribal fishers of the Adivasi Dighi of Gardanamari, Burdwan.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Banamali Hazra, Former MLA; Mr. Sumanta Bandopadhya, Panchayat Pradhan; Gulam Ziauddin, SMS, KVK, Burdwan and coordinated by Dr. Lianthuamluaia, Scientist and Mr. C. N. Mukherjee, CTO and Dr. P. K. Parida, Nodal Officer, TSP, ICAR-CIFRI.
