An Exposure Visit for the Students of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata arranged at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore

A three-days exposure visit was arranged at the ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore for 25 masters’ degree students from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata from December 18 to 20, 2018. On the first day the students were addressed by Dr. B. K. Das, Director of ICAR-CIFRI. The director welcomed them to the institute, briefed them about the activities and mandates of the institute. He also discussed with them the scope of fisheries sector in handicraft and fashion industry and gave them assigned them a task for innovative idea for amalgamating fashion with fisheries. The organisational structure of ICAR was also explained to them. The students were taken to the Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) and Aquarium and Hatchery unit of the institute. On the second day, an interactive session was arranged for the students on team building and leadership building theories and exercises. The students actively participated in the practical exercises and presented their business ideas on how to incorporate fisheries related items into fashion accessories. The director engaged himself in discussion with them and encouraged them for entrepreneurship development in future with innovative business ideas. He also motivated them to utilise fashion as a platform to carry message on our social responsibilities towards fishery development, fish conservation and fishermen livelihood security. On the third day a field trip to the local Ganga river bank was arranged for them.
