Skill development and capacity building of fishers from Khagaria District of Bihar at ICAR-CIFRI

A training program was organized for 30 fishermen of Khagaria District of Bihar at ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore during December 7 to 13, 2018 on management practices for inland fisheries development. The training programme was aimed at bridging up the gap in knowledge, skill and attitude of the farmers towards inland fisheries management. The trainees were trained on various aspects of inland fisheries which include soil and water chemistry, feeding management, fish diseases and their remedial measures etc. Hands on training on water and soil quality analysis and exposure visit to Kolkata, ICAR-CIFA field station, Kalyani, and Kamalgachhi, Balagarh were also arranged for the trainees. The training programme ended with collection of feedback from the institute and a formal valedictory session in which the director of the institute engaged in interaction with the trainees and discussed about several livelihood security and income generation options for fishermen. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore.
